Study Poster & Video: GI Symptom Risks and Consequences in Canadian Home Enteral Nutrition (ESPEN Congress on Clinical Nutrition & Metabolism, 2026)

  • This study showed that Canadian dietitians report that over half of their home enteral nutrition patients experience GI symptoms, with perceived consequences including reduction in quality of life, weight loss, and increased healthcare utilization. Dietitians saw poor prognosis and acute illness/infection among the main risk factors for GI symptoms. These findings reinforce the importance of proactively recognizing high risk patients to help anticipate GI symptoms and allow for prevention or early identification and intervention.
